Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) strongly supports the provision of heavy penalties for sexual offenders.

Vice-Chairman of the Law Commission of MUI, Ikhsan Abdullah, said the existing rules have proven inadequate deterrent effect to the perpetrators.

Ikhsan said sex offenders should be sentenced to death.
